Struggling with changing Google Analytics property in Site Kit? Discover a unique, quick fix that worked when traditional methods failed.

Understanding the Issue

Having the power to easily change your Google Analytics property in Google’s Site Kit is crucial for keeping track of your website’s data. But what happens when you face an unexpected hiccup? This was my exact predicament when I tried to switch properties for one of my sites. On three others, setting up GA4 analytics was smooth sailing. But this one… it just wouldn’t budge.

The Stubborn Dropdown List

The real problem arose when I attempted to use the property dropdown in Site Kit. All my properties were displayed, as expected. Yet, when I tried to select one, nothing happened. It was as if the dropdown was merely for show, refusing to respond to my clicks.

The Steps I Took

  1. Reinstalling Site Kit: One of the first things I tried was uninstalling and then reinstalling Site Kit. No dice.
  2. Checking User Permissions: I wondered if it was a permissions issue. After all, this can sometimes be the root cause of such issues. But after a thorough check, everything seemed in order.
  3. Browser Experiments: Could it be a browser-specific issue? I switched between different browsers, even going incognito. Unfortunately, this didn’t provide any solutions.

The Unexpected Solution

On the verge of giving up, I decided to try something out of the box: right-clicking on the property dropdown. To my surprise, this action worked! It allowed me to change the property successfully. This unique fix led me to believe that there could be some type of javascript conflict happening, especially since this was occurring in the site’s backend.

Conclusion

If you’re faced with an unresponsive Google Site Kit, especially in the analytics property section, consider right-clicking. It might just be the simple, unexpected solution you need. And while this workaround was effective for me, it’s also essential to remember that potential javascript conflicts in the backend should be addressed to prevent similar issues in the future.
