When I came into my office this morning, I found that an update ran on my Windows 10 machine overnight. The update was looking for a Windows Login. I prefer to use the old style local login. Fortunately I was easily able to bypass the demand for a Windows Login
Use the following bypass at your own risk.
I am a bit old school. The incessant nagging by Microsoft trying to force me to set up my Windows 10 laptop with a Microsoft account is getting annoying.
This morning, I sat down expecting to start working through my tasklist. Instead, I was being forced into setting up a Microsoft account before I could access MY machine
I really wasn’t in the mood for this. I read posts online about how to bypass the requirement for a Microsoft Account. However, I couldn’t get into my machine to read those. I probably could have used my tablet or phone.
A sudden inspiration hit me to try CONTROL-ALT-DELETE. Then I chose “Switch User”. That got me back to my normal user account.
I’m not sure if I will need to do this on every reboot but at least for now I have access to my machine.
I have seen other solutions that work as well.
The two updates that installed and caused the issue were
- KB4566782
- KB4569785
I will probably need to set up a Microsoft account and use it for my machine at some point in the future. However, today was just not a good day.
