CBS has an article about “Toasted Skin Syndrome” caused by heat from laptops against bare skin.
Here are a couple of random thoughts.
- If your laptop is running that hot, you risk damaging it. Check the CPU usage in Task Manager to see if you are running near 100 percent. If so, see if you can identify the problem.
- A cooling pad would help. However, if you have hair in your lap area, that could be a problem if the hairs get sucked into the little fans (OUCH). One of those laptop desks with the cooling pad would be a good choice.
- I’ve always wondered about the danger of using a laptop with wireless and having it in your lap. … near the soft, vulnerable tissue of your genitals.. Not to be crude here, but that is a consideration.. Once again, some separation of the laptop and your body might be in order. The radiation decreases at an inverse square rate. Therefore even a little separation could make a huge difference.
